Neyers Carneros District Chardonnay 2017 750ml
Neyers Carneros District Chardonnay 2017 750ml
Chardonnay from Carneros, California
Notes from the Winemaker
Neyers was established by Bruce and Barbara Neyers. Neyers wines, though grown in California, are greatly influenced by old world techniques and philosophies. Our Carneros Chardonnay is 100% Chardonnay from the Carneros region. Barrel fermented, 100% French Oak (30% New) Carneros, Sonoma County. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, and fermentation was carried out in a mixture of new and used French oak barrels, using native, wild yeast, and periodic lees stirring. Malolactic fermentation also occurs naturally, without the addition of an artificial starter. The additional contact with the yeast lees after barrel fermentation results in a lovely aroma that the French call “Noisette” after the hazelnut character it resembles
Reviews and Accolades
93 Points/The Somm Journal
The heirloom Shot Wente in this well developed white is grown in three different Carneros vineyards. The selection was first developed in 1938 by the Wente Brothers in the Livermore Valley; the clone’s ratio of skin to juice enhances the flavor profile of the wine, fermented in 100% French oak (30% new). Subtle but irresistible aromas of pear and white flowers persist on the palate, along with lemon, quince, tangerine blossom, and defined salinity. Italian herbs show on the finish.
92 Points/Wine Spectator
Refined and refreshing, with lively green pear, apple and citrus flavors, powered by zesty acidity. Quince paste and dried savory notes show on the finish.
