Cabernet Sauvignon from St. Helena, Napa Valley, California

Notes from the Winemaker

Carol’s Vineyard lies in northern St. Helena along the Napa River. Comprised of 27 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon (Clone 337 on 3309 rootstock) and 4.3 acres of Petit Verdot (Clone 400 on 3309 rootstock). The well-drained, gravelly, sandy loam soils and Bordeaux-like climate of the Napa Valley are ideally suited to producing richly textured, luxury-quality fruit. Named after Jerry Lohr’s late wife, this special 35-acre property in St. Helena is the source for this limited-release, classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

A wonderful compliment to roasted pork tenderloin with celery root puree.

Reviews and Accolades

95 Points/Tasting Panel
Sensuous, grainy tannins take shape with noticeable grip on the palate of this Cab blended with 13% Petit Verdot and aged 20 months in French oak. A garden of violets and lilacs and a wash of dark chocolate create an inviting textural path for the luxe liquid, which coats the inside of the mouth with crushed stone, currant, toasted coconut, and cedar. As part of the Lohr family's partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Touching Lives, $3 from every bottle sold is donated to the organization.

93 Points/Wine & Spirits
Grown at an estate vineyard, in the gravelly soils near the Napa River, this is a lean and spicy 2019. Lasting scents of fruity mushrooms and black plum skin give the wine dimension, while the tannins feel polished and powerful in their warm earth tones. The ripeness is spot on, sustaining a dynamic energy in the flavors, the wine needing ten years to show its best.

93 Points/Wine Enthusiast
Rich, dark and delicious, this full-bodied wine offers attractive, indulgent flavors of dark chocolate, blackberries and black olives on a firm but polished texture of fine-grained tannins. J. Lohr is a Central Coast powerhouse, but has owned this Napa Valley vineyard for more than 20 years.
