Notes from the Winemaker

As always Todos possesses the most exotic, complex and compelling aromatics of the lineup. Highlighted by black truffle, jasmine, five spice, black pepper and clove. Driven by dried blueberry, Mission fig and aged balsamic. Hints of dried tobacco, mint and baking chocolate combine with a tidal wave of velveteen black fruit on the palate. A wine of extreme power, but also delicate and proportional balance. Strikes me as the most approachable Todos since 2006 and also possibly the finest since that date.

Blend: 44% Syrah, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Sirah, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc

Always a kitchen sink blend, the 2017 Todos checks in as 44% Syrah, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petite Sirah, and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It's always a smoking value, and while I wasn't able to get a suggested retail price, I don't expect that to change. Certainly, the quality is top-notch. Blackberries, smoked plums, graphite, ground pepper, and crushed rock-like minerality all emerge from this beautifully balanced, elegant, yet concentrated and fleshy red that has the class, as well as the structure, to keep for over a decade. It should be even better this time next year. Rating: 94+
