Caymus Suisun Grand Durif Suisun Valley Petite Sirah 2019 750ML

Petite Sirah from Suisun Valley, North Coast, California

Only a 30-minute drive southeast of Napa, Suisun Valley (which became an AVA in 1982) is still largely undiscovered. With its warm days and cool nights, this pastoral region with multi-generational family farmers reminds us of Napa Valley in the 1960s. Known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts, it is also gaining recognition for exceptional wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region – we added “Grand” to the name for its grand style. With harmonious tannins, this wine is opulent, luxuriously soft and totally enjoyable.

Notes from the Winemaker

A vibrant, velvety purple, the 2019 vintages features scents of supple leather and earthy wood. The nose is layered with notes of ripe blackberries, rose petals and a hint of clove. Extremely fine, smooth tannins envelop the palate right away, held in seamless balance by this wine's oak. Flavors of berry cobbler mingle with leather, a wisp of fresh campfire, blooming flowers, and chocolate-covered raisins. Dark chocolate carries over to the finish alongside bright fruit and a luxurious, delicate texture.

Reviews and Accolades

2018 91 Points/Wilfred Wang
Why doesn't the world love Durif? Perhaps it is because the grape variety is barely known (except "geeks" in the wine biz). The 2018 Caymus-Suisun Grand Durif is powerful and lasting on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine is not shy as it surrounds the palate with ripe, grapey fruits and wood. Enjoy it with wood-smoked short ribs, and bring a good appetite to the table.

2015 93 Points/Wine Spectator
Dark and plush, this combines structure with polish, offering notes of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate, grilled herb and toasty spice that linger toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2025.
