Pinot Noir from Napa Valley, California

Notes from the Winemaker

While the Allomi vineyard is home to our Allomi Cabernet, it serves as the inspiration and namesake for our family of Allomi wines. The fruit for our Allomi Pinot Noir was selected from among the coolest vineyards of Napa Valley in the southernmost regions of Napa and Carneros.

Napa Valley Allomi Pinot Noir

A pioneer by nature, Donald Hess was determined to defy convention and pursue winemaking in the far reaches of the Napa Valley. In 1995, he pursued an untouched gem, Rancho Locoallomi, with a vision to uncover its potential. Once a dormant beauty, the Allomi Vineyards now give life to luxury Napa Valley wines. Our estate Allomi Vineyard is located in the gently rolling hills of northeastern Napa Valley. While this vineyard is home to our Allomi Cabernet, it serves as the inspiration and namesake for our family of Allomi wines. The fruit for our Allomi Pinot Noir was selected from among the coolest vineyards of Napa Valley in the southernmost regions of Napa and Carneros.

Taste with the Winemaker

“Our goal is to craft a Pinot Noir of the highest quality that is distinctly Napa Valley. This Pinot Noir is bright and engaging, full of red fruit aromas woven together with notes of cinnamon and sandalwood. Beautifully structured and lush, the palate is loaded with complete layers of cherries, brown spices and savory notes that surround silky tannins, persisting through a long finish.”

– Dave Guffy, Director of Winemaking

Vintage Notes

Vintage 2019 began slightly later than normal in some areas, but nonetheless delivered superb results. Spring was marked by occasional rains, which brought welcome soil saturation, and cooler temperatures, which allowed fruit to mature at a steady pace. Summer helped the grapevines to ripen and catch up from their late start, and conditions continued to be almost ideal throughout August and September. The warm days and cool nights of the Fall season allowed gradual sugar accumulation and longer hang times, promising fruit of the highest quality with structural beauty from balanced tannin, sugar and acid levels. Harvest began slightly later than normal in some areas, but with the grapevines able to mature their fruit due to a warm, dry autumn. Fruit was picked at its peak, promising exceptional flavor in bottle.

Reviews and Accolades

90 Points/Wine Spectator
Hints of red licorice accent the dried berry and cherry flavors, with medium-grained tannins. Pomegranate and allspice details linger on the finish, with dark chocolate notes.

90 Points/Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2018 Pinot Noir Allomi comes from Carneros. Pale to medium ruby-purple, it comes bounding out of the glass like a young, excited puppy with notions of bright Bing cherries, black raspberries, fresh blackberries and mulberries with touches of tar, aniseed, lavender and dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with red and black fruits, supported by soft, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long with some earthy notes coming through.
